Infrastructure

Industries succeed in Round Rock because we take infrastructure seriously. Our infrastructure has always been ahead of the curve, with consistent, well-planned roadway expansions, high speed telecommunications connectivity, affordable utilities and media outlets that establish Round Rock as its own independent community.

Utilities

Electric
Under the electric restructuring law passed during the 1999 Texas legislative session, cities and other political subdivisions may create entities to aggregate electric loads and purchase electricity from Retail Electric Providers (REPs). Participation in these groups enables cities, including Round Rock, to increase the options for attaining the best electrical power packages for the best cost to consumers.  This allows Round Rock to offer some of the lowest utility rates in Central Texas. Visit www.powertochoose.com for more information.

Gas
Gas service is provided by Atmos Energy which serves Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander and Taylor in Williamson County, Pflugerville in Travis County, as well as additional areas within these two counties

Water Supply

In Round Rock, water and wastewater utility operations are funded primarily through user fees. Specifically, the impact fees the city collects are set aside for designated utility projects and may also be used toward current debt service on existing facilities that serve new connections. Local water facilities deliver 30 million gallons per day, with capacity set at 48 million gallons per day. The Lower Colorado River Authority/Brazos River Authority alliance provides wastewater services, treating up to 11.7 million gallons a day.

Additionally, they provide 19 storage tanks with a capacity of 18 million gallons and two new water towers that hold 1.25 million gallons each. All of this is accomplished with some of the lowest water and wastewater rates in the area.

Telecommunications

Round Rock has a solid structure for both telephone and wireless services. The infrastructure and lines needed to stay ahead of the technology curve is present in Round Rock. SBC supplies the cable infrastructure throughout the city. Since, the service side of the industry is deregulated, it gives businesses and the community many options for their service.

Round Rock understands the importance of a wired community and therefore has an infrastructure already in place to accommodate it including access to digital, ISDN, fiber optics, T-1 lines and more. In fact, Round Rock was one of the first communities to wire every workplace, household and community setting with digital capabilities. It is the dedication to this reality that has made Round Rock one of the cornerstones for the technology industry.
